In February of that same year, her co-star Green spoke frankly about how she was holding up at the Annual Open Hearts Gala in Beverly Hills, saying:
"I don't want to speak about her too much, but it's a hard situation."

The Los Angeles native acknowledged that dealing with the disease was difficult. Meanwhile, Green stated difficult times only made people stronger, but only if they allowed it – which is what Doherty was doing at the time.
He described her as a good person, adding that she deserved all the good wishes and friendships she had. In July 2023, the TV star turned 50, and his longtime pal Doherty, 52, paid tribute to him with a sweet post on Instagram.

Doherty and Green starred as Brenda Walsh and David Silver in the teen drama series from 1990 until 1994 alongside Tori Spelling. She left the show due to an alleged conflict on set, and he remained on the show.
In a recent interview, Green spoke out on Doherty's condition and described her as being an "incredibly tough person" amid her battle with cancer, adding:
"If there's anyone who could put up a real fight to cancer – she's one of them. It's not an easy situation, obviously."

It all began with ulcerative colitis followed by vertigo, and then it turned neurological as he found himself uttering fewer words. The star lost his ability to talk and walk and could not read or write. He divulged that he could not work for four years. However, there was no official diagnosis, and he only hoped to get back to his usual self.
