SALMON, Idaho (CBS2) — The Hayden fire has now spread to 14,745 acres.
The Interagency Incident Management Team says most of the fire activity and growth has occurred from the East Fork of Hayden Creek into Little Mill Creek, Bates Gulch and Jack Smith Gulch.
The fire perimeter is still within primary containment lines. In areas where containment lines are completed, crews increase the depth or construct contingency lines.
Resources conducted burnout operations supported by aviation in the vicinity of Kadletz Creek and Bear Valley Road to build an anchor point to continue containment lines in the northern area of the fire.
A red flag warning is in place for gusty winds and low relative humidity. Southwesterly winds with gusts up to 35 miles per hour will persist over the fire today. Combined with low relative humidity, critical fire weather conditions are once again predicted. These unfavorable conditions will persist throughout the week.
The Hayden fire started on July 19 and is 18 miles west of Leadore, Idaho. The cause is undetermined. 624 personnel are assigned to the fire.
A community meeting will be held in Salmon on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Idaho Fish and Game Office.
