In 1874, a Swiss timepiece maker named Georges Edouard Piaget established a workshop in a tiny village in the Jura mountains of Switzerland called La Cote aux Fees. It initially focused on the creation of pocket watches and high-precision clock movements for other prestigious timepiece companies. In 1991, his son took over and refocused the company’s focus to the manufacture of wristwatches.
The company has been able to cultivate its image of being a “watchmaker jeweler. In 1988, the luxury goods specialist from Switzerland called Richemont, then known as Vendome, bought the timepiece company.
The company has always been known for its fine craftsmanship. While it began as a manufacturer of watch movements, it eventually evolved to create and market its own line of prestigious timepieces in the 20th century. Piaget has been in the forefront of the ultra-thin movement, including the thinnest tourbillon movement in the world at 3.5 millimeters.
